If you're looking for quality mobile games that don't require you to break through the extreme paywalls, then look no further. (there may still be walls, but the game is either giving or has a ton to do to negate that) Check out these five games, personally tested within countless hours spent on each. These are our top five free games for Android or iOS.
This list is of course subjective. Others may find this list to be too RPG-esque or not akin to their tastes. We aren't really into the mindless Candy Crushes of the world, so you won't see one dimensional games here.

In precise order...
5. Shining Beyond
This may be at the back end, but it could easily traverse past the next few games if the in-game battles didn't come off so clunky. In battles the character models look a bit rough especially if you compare this game to what Seven Deadly Sins is doing. It comes off like a Diablo more top view game but when you're on the main menus and see the characters it's all a very high quality assortment of artwork, design, and a very intricate level of detail that is a bit jarring from the battles. If they had chosen to utilize the high fidelity artwork of their 2D character art instead in the battle system, this game would be perfect. That's the only thing holding this game back a bit, as for the game itself is truly fun and addictive. There's a generous character summoning system with better rates than Dokkan or 7DS could dream of. After a few hours with the game I had already acquired numerous top tier characters with half the roster already acquired.
4. Princess Connect Re:Dive
The charm and charisma of this game oozes out of the gates. If you ever wanted character interactivity done right, here it is. Every character in the game has a short storyline seperate of the main quest. There's also guilds for bunches of every few characters with stories. All of which are well done and interesting as well as unique. The art closely resembles that of the anime and is all well crafted.
I do wish there was just a bit more to do in the game that didn't require stamina so that I could play longer than fifteen minutes at a time. The summoning rates and just the number of banners are very limiting and the game isn't very friendly with that. Probably the most paywalled game on this list. Hopefully that'll get better as time goes by as this is brand new for global as of this year.

3. Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle
The legend of Goku survives six years into the game's lifetime. I've been playing since the start of the Global release and the game has done nothing but improve over time. It is very paywalled for long time players (I know I said this list wasn't super money grabbing but hold on here) but for new players there is a ton, a TON, of free stuff for you to accumulate characters and an endless amount of events as well as free characters to nab. This game is here instead of Dragon Ball Legends as I've found that game to not be that fun unless you want a pure PVP experience with the same awful character summon rates as Dokkan. That's a hard pass as the team building and amount of content in Dokkan greatly surpasses that of it's evil sibling.

2. The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross
Probably the most well done mobile game on the market in terms of design, layout, characters, animations, gratuity, events, just to name a few. This game is fun on so many levels. The only few things to challenge this is, it is immensely grindy if you care at being great at the PVP section of the game as well as trying to make your characters and teams really good to be able to take on the harder events in-game. Summoning will quickly turn into a paywall after a bit of time, but the game does have a lot of ways to full counter that with coins for some units and giving out summon tickets for free quite often.
1. Mobile Legends: Adventure
This has to be the most newcomer friendly game on the list. Not only does it give you a good chunk of summons for characters for free at game start, there's plenty of free things given to you through missions and events to keep giving you those free summons. If you want to be top tier, sure, you'll have to invest, but to play this game casually is extremely satisfying with tons to do. Visually this game is very clean and uncluttered with fantastic art and animations. This game is one rare game where everything about it is easy to navigate and figure out whereas a lot of games can be rough in places, I had no issues here.
My only negative would be you get kind of stuck in progression slowing way down when you hit about level 60-80 with characters making this game limited in play time.
Overall this game I'd recommend for the most game friendly and well designed game on this list.
*Honorable mentions: Fire Emblem Heroes, Marvel Strike Force, Genshin Impact, Pokemon Go
These games are great too, but they either had a flaw or weren't better than the listed games.
