One of (if not the) new Winter Anime is here, and it's something most of you will have had no desire in wanting to watch. Know why? It's about dolls. Every guy just cringed, but hold on. What if I told you a beautiful waifu undresses? Got your attention back momentarily, sweet.
My Dress-Up Darling (Sono Bisuku Dōru wa Koi o Suru) is out now, currently airing on VRV, Crunchyroll, Funimation, and likely a lot more.
A loner High School boy, Wakana Gojo, has averted making any connections with people at his school due to an incident mocking his affection for Hina Dolls. (pictured below)
Growing up so passionately about these dolls, he's isolated himself from any normalcy of the High School experience. One day his hidden passion is discovered by a classmate but things don't go as expected, the classmate wanting him to help sew her cosplay.
Now even after reading that brief description, we're still underselling it. This show is comedy, cringe and embarrassment, but also heart and a true joy to behold. It's purity, it's loving something others think is weird and don't understand so they make fun of it. Not only is there value in the lesson, it's done in a way to connect to the character instantly even though most people in the world aren't creating Hina Dolls, they may have their own weird quirky hobby that they may feel embarrassed about if found out. This is why we can connect to this show so quickly, even though we can't directly correlate to that specific hobby or passion. That's why this show has started off so strong, that connection, but it does so in a way with humor, that tension of embarrassing moments, and a purity or character.
Yet still, I can't quite convey how good this series is starting off, so please do yourself a favor and check out the first couple episodes. If you aren't big on watching anime and prefer to read the manga instead, that's an option as well as you can find it on Amazon or your preferred site of purchase now. Multiple volumes are available so you can get past the anime in no time.
