We like to wait to the bitter end to get a true game of the year. We had to give Cyberpunk 2077 a fair chance before the year was up and we're glad we did as it dives into runner up. A lot of other sites (we don't name names!) have been saying a lot of hot garbage continuously about it and to put it simply, we think they're full of it. Cyberpunk is buggy sure, and they (CD Project Red) should have never bothered with a PS4 and XBONE release to begin with, but there's a ton of buggy games that come out, and I recall no one had issues saying Skyrim wasn't a GOTY worthy game even if it was filled to the brim with bugs as well at launch. We love Cyberpunk 2077, to hell with the negative media, but the reason it didn't win GOTY is due to Ghost of Tsushima being a true, one of a kind experience throughout its journey across Tsushima.
Ghost of Tsushima is like a soothing haiku softly spoken in a calm cherry blossom breeze. It is crafted perfectly with each word chosen with an eloquent purpose, made with love and spoken with true desire to be a beautiful song of admiration for Japan.
This isn't a review for 'Ghost, but we love the heart and soul that was clearly put into the game by Sucker Punch Productions. We love the small details of hearing a fox and searching for it, to eventually finding it and their shrine and then having a calm moment to pet the fox before we head back out into the depths of battle and our long war to reclaim Tsushima. There are so many moments where we just appreciate the game and its beauty, but also have so much fun dueling and dissecting different enemies and their fighting styles. It is a true glory and honor to play such a well crafted game.
